About

Galerie Watson is a contemporary art gallery based in Hamburg, Germany, led by Alice Hinrichs. The gallery focuses on presenting cutting-edge light and media art, as well as site-specific installation art, with a special emphasis on innovative works that push the boundaries of traditional media. Through a collaborative curatorial approach, Galerie Watson encourages artists to explore new forms of expression, incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives and technology-driven experiences into their work.

Founded in 2023 by Alice Hinrichs, the gallery first opened in a former antiques store and in partnership with Thomas Holthoff,  relocated to its current space at Milchstraße 2 in Hamburg Rotherbaum. Galerie Watson hosts a dynamic program of five curated exhibitions each year, alongside participation in external projects and exhibitions. The gallery strives to offer a platform for both established and emerging artists, engaging audiences with a progressive vision of contemporary art that challenges conventional understandings and embraces a forward-thinking, postmodern approach.

    Specialist in Light Art

Alice Hinrichs (born and lives in Hamburg, Germany) is a curator, cultural manager, communications expert, and co-founder and managing director of Galerie Watson. Her interdisciplinary degrees from King's College London (BSc in Business Management) and SDA Bocconi in Milan (Master in Arts Management) lay the foundation for her networked and transdisciplinary thinking and work. The focus of her curatorial work is on site-specific light and installation art, whose genre and genre boundaries she constantly renegotiates and expands in the context of new collaborations with artists. She is interested in the transformation of existing art practice into new spaces; like a medium between the artist, the work and its presentation.
In 2019, she founded the non-profit light art platform L.U.C.E. (then: Arte Luce), with which she helps up-and-coming artists gain more visibility and presents solo and group exhibitions. In addition, she co-curated the EVI LICHTUNGEN light art biennial in Hildesheim in 2020 and 2022 and is Chairwoman of the T.W. Stiftung in Hamburg.  Hinrichs has already worked with internationally renowned artists such as Anthony McCall, Regine Schumann, Keith Sonnier and Fabrizio Plessi.
