Galerie Watson is pleased to once again participate in the Positions art fair in Berlin. We will be showing an exclusive selection of works by the renowned light artist Mischa Kuball.
At this year's POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair, 111 international galleries from 24 countries will present their most important positions in contemporary and modern art.
Mischa Kuball, conceptual artist, has been working in public and institutional spaces since 1977. Using the medium of light, he explores architectural spaces and their social and political discourses. He reflects on various facets, from cultural social structures to architectural interventions that emphasise or recode the landmark character and architectural-historical context. This intention is particularly visible in the projects res.o.nant at the Jewish Museum Berlin (2017-2019), greenlight in a former Jewish neighbourhood in Montevideo (1999) and Refraction House in the Stommeln Synagogue (1994). Politically motivated and participatory projects focus on the interweaving of public and private space and create a platform for communication between the participants, the artist, the work and the urban space.
Mischa Kuball has been Professor of Public Art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne since 2007. Prior to this, he was Professor of Media Art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung/ZKM, Karlsruhe. Since 2015 he has been a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian academy for science and arts, Düsseldorf. In 2016, he was awarded the German Light Art Award (Deutscher Lichtkunstpreis)
