Jeongmoon Choi South Korea, b. 1966
Jeongmoon Choi’s Tectonic Score series is a poetic exploration of nature and its immense forces. Following her experience of an earthquake, which sparked a fascination with the unstoppable movements of tectonic plates, she began translating this phenomenon into delicate pencil drawings on paper. The lines in her works resemble both the shifting of tectonic plates and the rhythmic waves of a seismograph, evoking the feel of musical notation for an invisible, geophysical melody.
With Tectonic Score, Choi creates an aesthetic translation of natural forces that celebrates the beauty of movement and change, while gently acknowledging the fears and uncertainties these phenomena can inspire. Her works are a quiet yet powerful homage to the invisible rhythms of the Earth, capturing both its grace and its overwhelming power.
