Jeongmoon Choi – More Moiré

Jeongmoon Choi’s work moves on various thresholds between installation, drawing and relief. In Choi’s artistic practice, two-dimensional lines become expansive structures. 

In particular, Choi has received international recognition for her site-specific drawings in space. Using kilometre-long elastic threads, she weaves connections and creates bodies and movements. In black light, these threads glow fluorescently, creating magical, almost irritating atmospheres. Choi masterfully develops a fascinating tension between the fragility of the thread structures and the massive architecture that fades into darkness. The boundary between the analogue and digital worlds appears to dissolves, immersing visitors in an experience that feels akin to entering a virtual space. 

At the same time, she illuminates the interplay between imagination and reality. The overlapping lines often create a Moiré effect, challenging viewers’ perceptions and questioning conventional visual habits. The static lines come to life, transforming into dynamic movements.

Born in Seoul in 1966, Jeongmoon Choi has lived and worked in Berlin since the early 2000s. After studying painting at Sungshin University in Seoul, she moved to Germany to study Fine Art in Kassel. Her works have been exhibited in numerous prestigious institutions and museums worldwide, including the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, the MARCO Contemporary Art Museum in Mexico, the HOCA Contemporary Art Foundation in Hong Kong, the Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Brazil, and the Saatchi Gallery in London.
